This work is skillful translation of Me'Am Lo'ez, the classic and popular Bible commentary on one of the best-loved prophetic books, the Book of Jeremiah. Jeremiah bore G-d's word to the tiny Kingdom of Judah, all that remained of Israel after the Assyrians exiled the Ten Tribes over a century earlier. He could not escape his mission, the most formidable ever faced by any prophet who arose in Israel. The results of his forty-year career as a prophet, and his tireless efforts to move the nation to repentance amidst unremitting opposition within Judah, were tragic. Imprisoned more than once and nearly assassinated on several occasions, Jeremiah hardly enjoyed a life of ease and popularity as a prophet. Yet when this was offered to him after the Temple's destruction by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, he rejected it in favor of staying in Israel with Gedalyah and the survivors who had gathered around him. But not for long: after Gedalyah's assassination and the panic aroused by the event, he was compelled to flee to Egypt with the refugees. Jeremiah is also the author of the Book of Lamentations(Eicha).
